AUTHOR'S COMMENTS

Dear Reader,

The main character in my first novel is a bit odd by most standards. From his childhood, he rejected the life of wealth and prestige his parents chose for him. He preferred to spend time with his grandparents in the once prosperous town of Piercefield, NY surrounded by the high peaks of the Adirondack Mountain. After the tragic death of his parents, he rejected his high society New York City life-style in favor of an inconspicuous life where his heart really resided. He was determined to live by his own instincts and his profound trust in nature. He refused to rely on anyone, not even God, for survival.

His simple, uneventful life would change forever when a near-fatal accident one dreary afternoon sparked a chain of events that caused Lucas to face his ghosts from the past and question his decisions. With the help of a sixteen-year-old psychic (Barb), a recovering drug addict (Dot), and a beautiful but flawed young woman (Anne), battling demons of her own, Lucas embarked on a surreal journey that will leave you wondering, “How far would I go to keep a promise?”

Obviously I think this book is a classic but I am the author and somewhat biased. My friends say it is very good. My brother told me I captured the essence of the Adirondacks.  This romance novel appeals to female and male readers. To paraphrase the comments of the president of a nationally ranked environmental engineering firm, "if a man reads this book and says he didn't like it, he would be lying."

If you are reluctant to read this book from an "unknown" author, read the reviews, peruse Chapter 1. Anne's heart-wrenching sense of abandonment may strike a familiar chord in you. From there Lucas tries to rationalize for himself, and you, that his actions were justified.  In the end, Lucas' destiny lies in the hands of the woman he betrayed and a God he never knew.

I know you will enjoy Lucas’ story as much as I liked unraveling it in my head and putting the words on paper for you to read.

READER REVIEWS

"This wonderful, soul-touching book is a pure delight to read. It offers suspense, mystery and romance but also life lessons, appreciation for the natural world, and a reminder of the important things in life. It is a well written, exquisitely done work of art. The characters speak to you, the setting calls to you, the author reaches out to you. I absolutely loved reading “A Promise for Destiny,” and highly recommend it."

"For a fictional romance novel, the characters in this story are very unusual, and yet realistic. The circumstances of their coming together are strange, yet also believable. The depth of conscience is extreme, to the point of physical disability."

" ..the story is a page-turner of suspense, intrigue and romance. The author excels at descriptive narrative, and I would recommend this book to readers interested in fictional romance with a twist."

"This is an awesome book. The story line keeps you interested and it is not predictable. The author makes you want to know all about the characters and doesn't bore you with trivial details. The romance portions of the story are tactful yet stimulating, which I find appealing in this day and age. He leaves a bit to the imagination, which is one of the things that impressed me the most, especially coming from a male author. He paints an alluring picture of the Adirondack wilderness with an obvious passion and knowledge that he possesses for it.

I would love to see this as a Lifetime or Hallmark movie!!!!

Can't wait for his next endeavor...hopefully it comes out soon.”

 LEONARD MOODY PUBLISHES FIRST NOVEL

Author Leonard Moody explores the question of fate, the mystical power of nature, and man’s search for his identity in the new novel, A Promise for Destiny, set in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.

Northern New York native and Central New York resident Leonard Moody shares his knowledge of the Adirondacks in his tale of Lucas Ambler, a lonely and confused man who has turned his back on society to live alone in the mountains. However, Fate, in the form of a sixteen-year-old psychic, has other plans for Lucas. This lyrical exploration into the heart of a man seeking solace in the wild reveals the beauty of nature and its often-mystical qualities.

Some people call me a hunting guide or fishing guide. The kids that live in town call me the “Mountain Man.” I can live off the land as well as any pioneer did when they first started mapping the mountainous terrain that surrounds me…

Born into a life of wealth and prestige, Lucas Ambler always preferred the wild Adirondack Mountains to the Manhattan social scene in which he was raised. Saddened by personal loss and unfettered with the need to work, he turns his back on civilization and chooses instead to live in the cabin his father had built. New York City would be but a fading memory if it were not for Carina, his best friend and confidant, who was with him when he first learned of his parents’ tragic death.

Alone but not realizing how lonely he is, Lucas is determined to live by his own instincts and his trust in nature, hiring himself out as a nature guide. He refuses to rely on anyone else, not even God, for survival.

His simple, uneventful life will change forever when a near-fatal accident one dreary afternoon sparks a chain of events that causes Lucas to face his ghosts from the past and question his decisions. With the help of a sixteen-year-old psychic, a recovering drug addict, and a beautiful but flawed young woman, battling demons of her own, Lucas embarks on a surreal journey that will leave you wondering, “How far would I go to keep a promise?”

Leonard Moody was born and raised in Piercefield, a small town in far Upstate New York. He spent his formative years hiking through rugged forests, fishing the Racquette River, and hunting for deer and ruffed grouse. He uses this backdrop and his knowledge of the outdoors to tell the story of Lucas Ambler.
